Britain will feed thousands of Palestinians trapped in the beleaguered Gaza Strip through a newly-completed pier off the Mediterranean coast, it has been revealed. Defence Secretary Grant Shapps said in a statement the first shipment to Gaza, which left Cyprus on Wednesday, is expected to 'provide enough provisions to feed 11,000 people for a month'. 'The UK continues to play a key role in this herculean international effort - supporting logistics coordination in Cyprus, deploying RFA Cardigan Bay to help US personnel constructing and operating the pier and providing UK aid for delivery.'

More cases of disease in Devon are expected today as MP claims heads 'have to roll' over parasite found in drinking water. Around 16,000 households and businesses in the Brixham area of Devon have been told not to use their tap water for drinking without boiling and cooling it first. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) said on Friday that 46 cases of cryptosporidium had now been confirmed in the fishing town, up from 22 cases on Thursday, and that more cases were anticipated. More than 100 cases of sickness have been reported. Anthony Mangnall, Conservative MP for Totnes and South Devon has said 'head are going to have to role' over the outbreak.

The suspect charged with the attempted murder of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has arrived at court ahead of his trial. Several police cars arrived at a penal court in Pezinok, northeast of the capital of Bratislava, today where 71-year-old poet Juraj Cintula's pre-trial detention will be determined.  The suspect was charged with attempted murder after unleashing a flurry of bullets at the Prime Minister in Handlova town on Wednesday, hitting him four times and leaving him in critical condition.

Legendary Doctor Who writer Steven Moffat is returning to the show after a seven-year break, having penned what may be his most dramatic episode yet. Instead, UK viewers wanting to watch the highly-anticipated clash will have to pay £24.95 to watch it on either DAZN PPV, Sky Sports Box Office or TNT Sports Box Office.

The much-loved actress, who has played seamstress Beth Sutherland on the ITV soap for 12 years, has told how she has been diagnosed with the condition NAION - non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy - which causes sudden vision loss in one eye. In an exclusive interview with MailOnline, Lisa says she now fears her disability will mean she may never be able to work in acting again after suffering two separate incidents that have left her visually impaired in both eyes. Corrie bosses are so worried about her sight that they have even taken measures to help her, including printing off her scripts in big fonts, organising transport when she was unable to drive for six months, and have even changed some of her scenes to accommodate her failing eye sight. 'I always think there are people far worse off than you, and I'm just grateful I can still see but we don't know what could happen in the future.'
